The Bachelorette: Jen Schefft Releases a New Book
Jen Schefft is starting to look like the Runaway Bride but she has just the right answer to those who might want to give her that title. The winner on season three of The Bachelor recently published a book called Better Single than Sorry, where she somehow explains the recent choices she’s made.
When Jen Schefft won on The Bachelor, she and then searcher, Andrew Firestone, got engaged and stayed together for nine months only to part ways after. Schefft then went on to star in The Bachelorette where she got to be the one to pick the winner, who turned out to be Jerry Ferris. When Ferris proposed marriage, Schefft turned him down because she said the relationship lacked the chemistry necessary to make it work.
Following the string of no-gos to the altar, Schefft became the object of ridicule among the press, some of whom labeled her a spinster while a talk show host remarked that she was destined to be “a bachelorette for the rest of her life.”
In what would seem a subtle justification of her decisions, Schefft summed up her book and experiences saying that “settling means being in a relationship that’s anything less than you deserve…It’s being in a relationship that’s not exactly right…for the sake of being in a relationship.”
She did stress, however, that she isn’t advocating a no-compromise attitude. In fact, one section in her book is devoted to differentiating between compromise and settling. The chapter is aptly called “Compromise, Yes; Settle, No.”
With chapters entitled “Your Time is Precious, Why Waste It?”, “Stop Believing You Can’t Do Better,” “Don’t Talk Yourself into Liking a Guy,” “It Takes Guts to Be on Your Own” among others, Jen Schefft’s casual, conversational manuscript encourages women to embrace their single status while remaining open and receptive to finding the right partner.

'Hannah Montana' Sleepwalks, Plus Album Debuts at No. 1
On Saturday, a brand new episode of Hannah Montana, entitled "Sleepwalk This Way," was aired. It featured Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) who sleepwalks due to pressure from keeping the truth from someone. What makes her condition worse is when she sleepwalks, she tells everyone the truth, no matter how harsh it may sound.
The episode begins when her father, Robbie (Billy Ray Cyrus) tells his daughter that he has written a new song for her. Miley is excited to hear it, however, her father won't play it until his guitar is back from the shop. Too excited to wait, she searches the entire house until she finds a folded up piece of paper in his jacket pocket. The song turns out to be about bunnies and it was plain horrible. She enters a dilemma: how does she tell her father that the song isn't good without hurting his feelings?
The pressure from the dilemma leads Miley to fall asleep in class and sleepwalk. What's worse is that she tells her teacher things no one would ever dare say. Oliver and Lilly make up excuses, but the teacher, Ms. Kunkle, is already furious, thus sending Miley to the principal's office.
After all the trouble, Miley decides to tell her father about the song, and the truth is revealed. The song about bunnies was a song Miley wrote herself when she was a little girl, and her father keeps it in his pocket for inspiration. Her father then sings the real song and fortunately, she likes it.
Hannah Montana performed a new hit song in this episode and the Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus album debuted at number one, beating out the debut of Kelly Clarkson's second album, My December. The combination HM/Miley Cyrus CD sold 326,000 units for the week ended July 1, even beating the first Hannah Montana soundtrack album which sold 281,000 units its first week out last October.
